STAN BOUMA
Second Tenor Horn

Instrument:
It's a York, built a couple of years before they went under. It's silver and oh so cute! It has a trigger that takes away most of my intonation excuses

Mouthpiece:
Wick 3. Rich tone. Not so great for the high notes. Color matches the horn

Music Heroes:
Dennis Brain - best horn player ever
Stan Bouma began his studies on brass instruments in England at the age of 11, when he started to play the French horn. Since then, he has played horn in Maryland, Iowa, California, and briefly in Massachusetts before settling in Illinois. He continues to play in the Waukegan Symphony, where he has played for 25 years. He was solo tenor horn with the Illinois Brass Band for 15 years before switching to the Chicago Brass Band in 2008.

Although horn is Stan’s passion, it is not his vocation. He received a PhD in Chemistry from Stanford University, and has been a research scientist for Abbott Laboratories since 1982. He has 14 patents.

Stan lives in Grayslake with his wife (who used to play horn) and two daughters, one of whom had sufficient good taste to take up the horn herself.
